Pan-American Games 2011

The Pan-American Games was inaugurated on October 14 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The schedule of karate in these games was as follows:

– October 26, weigh in and technical meeting at the Pan-American village

– October 27, Male +84 kg and Female +68kg

– October 28, Male -84kg, Male -60kg, Female -68kg and Female-50kg

– October 29, Male -75kg, Male -67kg, Female -61kg and Female -55kg

The president of the WKF, Antonio Espinos, arrived in Guadalajara the early morning hours of October 26. Mr. Espinos after his arrival together with the PKF president, William Millerson, had a meeting with the president of PASO, Mr. Mario Vazquez Raña. Mr. Espinos also met various IOC members who were present in Guadalajara. Later in the afternoon the WKF president together with the PKF president met with all the referees in their hotel. During this meeting the referees were reminded of the importance of the quality of karate in these games, not only for the PKF but also for the WKF, to uphold the image and the presence of karate in all the games of the Olympic cycle.

All was well organized and went very smoothly. During the technical meeting all coached were duly informed about all procedures concerning the games, and also the competitor’s draw and referee draw for each match took place. During this meeting we also stressed on the proper behavior of the coaches and athletes during the karate competition.

In the evening hours the WKF President hosted a dinner with the participation of all the delegates of the respective countries.

It is advised to organize the next event of karate in the Pan-American games in 2 days. This will be more attractive for the audience.

Karate facts:

– 80 competitors from 20 countries

– 14 referees from 13 different countries
